Gulf of Mexico Studies (GULF)
The first part of a multidisciplinary, experiential class that explores the environmental, social, technological, economic, scientific, and political issues facing the Gulf of Mexico. Course activities will integrate students’ diverse disciplinary backgrounds and experiences. In addition to traditional course delivery modes, the course includes guest speakers, field trips, and service-learning components.
The second part of a multidisciplinary, experiential class that explores the environmental, social, technological, economic, scientific, and political issues facing the Gulf of Mexico. Course activities will integrate students’ diverse disciplinary backgrounds and experiences. In addition to traditional course delivery modes, the course includes guest speakers, field trips, and service-learning components. Special emphasis on social responsibility, ethical reasoning, interdisciplinary and integrative learning.
Prerequisite: GULF 3101.
The third part of a multidisciplinary, experiential class in which students will complete a proposal for the Gulf Impact Project (GIP, or capstone project) to be completed in GULF 3304. In addition to traditional course delivery modes, the course includes guest speakers, field trips, and service-learning components, integrating students’ diverse disciplinary backgrounds and experiences. Special emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation, including career development related to the development of the Gulf Impact Project proposal.
The fourth part of a multidisciplinary, experiential class in which students successfully carry out and complete their Gulf Impact Projects (GIP), proposed in GULF 3103. Specific activities will be tailored to the particular projects, which can vary depending on the project focus, design, scope and other project-defined characteristics.
