Public Health, Minor

Program Description

This Public Health Minor will provide undergraduate students with a broad yet structured understanding of public health principles, practices, and career applications. It will be particularly valuable to students pursuing degrees such as health sciences, biology, biomedical sciences, nursing, psychology, sociology, environmental science, and political science. 

Admissions Requirements

Enrolled as an undergraduate student in any discipline.

Program Requirements

18 credit hours; 15 required core and a minimum of 3 elective course hours. The minor includes a subset of courses from other university degree programs. No new courses have been developed for the minor. 

Student Learning Outcomes 

  1. Describe the fundamental principles and functions of public health systems. 

  1. Analyze the impact of behavioral, social, and environmental factors on population health. 

  1. Apply basic research and data analysis methods to public health questions. 

  1. Discuss and analyze impacts of the environment and occupations, including prevention and preparedness, on public health. 

  1. Critically evaluate current public health challenges and propose evidence-based interventions.
