Program Description

The cultural studies certificate program challenges students to investigate culture and individual experiences, social relations and power structures, and discover approaches to the challenges of today’s world.  Students with cultural studies training prepare for graduate study and for work in business, government agencies, law enforcement, nonprofit organizations, and any other organization seeking to better serve its community members.

Upon completion of this certificate students will:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the core concepts of Black Studies, Mexican-American Studies, and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies
  • Demonstrate a nuanced understanding of the social and cultural concepts of “race,” "ethnicity," and "gender" and analyze the factors that have contributed to shaping aping of these social constructs.
  • Demonstrate the importance of a cultural studies concepts to contemporary or historical issues and settings.

Program Requirements

The Cultural Studies Certificate Program requires 16 hours of coursework:
