Addictions Counseling Certificate
Program Description
The certificate program would be offered as a postbaccalaureate certificate available to individuals seeking advanced training in substance use disorders. The coursework would satisfy the academic requirements for individuals seeking the Master Addictions Counselor credential offered by the MAC Consortium (NBCC, NAADAC, and CRCC). Individuals who obtain the MAC credential can:
- position themselves for career advancement and increased salary potential
- distinguish themselves as a practitioner who has specialized in addiction assessment and treatment
- demonstrate to clients, employers, and 3rd party payors their commitment to quality care by verifying through certification the skills and competencies they have developed through years of work experience and course work
- demonstrate their commitment of the highest ethical standards for substance use disorders/addiction professionals
- position themselves to meet the demand for substance use disorders/addiction counselors (the U.S. Department of Labor expects the demand to grow by 22% by 2024)
- enhance their opportunities for independent practice
As an added benefit, current students in the TAMU-CC Professional Counseling M.S. degree program (clinical mental health counseling specialization), who choose to do so, can earn the certificate as part of their 60-SCH degree plan coursework; thus graduating with a degree and a transcript certificate.
