4sem. hrs.(3:3) Biodiversity and roles of microorganisms in natural environments. Interactions with other micro- and macro-organisms (humans, animals and plants) and with abiotic factors. Unique abilities of microorganisms such as nitrogen fixation and adaptation to extreme environments. Prerequisite: BIOL 2421 - Microbiology, or consent of instructor. Corequisite: Safety training given in SMTE 0092 - Biomedical Laboratory Safety Seminar is required for continued participation in this course. Offered fall semester every year.
