The New Media Arts Certificate provides a pathway for students to acquire applied communication skills valuable in today’s era of media convergence, as well as the critical and theoretical background necessary to use those skills creatively and effectively. Students take required Communication courses in digital filmmaking, editing, and writing, as well as supporting courses from the Art Department in photography, graphic design, and web design. Students must also take a critical studies course on new media, and a capstone course in which they complete a project integrating these skills.

Certification Requirements

Communication majors, as well as students from any other major, may pursue the certificate in order to acquire new media skills as they prepare to enter the workforce. Non-degree seeking students may also wish to pursue the certificate in order to update their own applied communication skills for the changing demands of the contemporary media environment.
